DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?
Frequently asked questions
How long can someone stay in hospice care?
Hospice care is provided for as long as the patient meets eligibility requirements, typically when their life expectancy is six months or less. The care plan is tailored to the patient's condition and individual needs.
How does Hospice care work?
Hospice care emphasizes comfort, pain management, and emotional support for individuals with a life limiting illness, providing guidance to both patients and families during this challenging time.
What services does Hospice provide?
Services include pain and symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, counseling for patients and their families, respite care, and assistance with daily living activities.
How much time do I need to commit?
The volunteer commitment is a minimum of 6 months, with a total of 50 hours during this period (approximately 2 hours per week). Once your role is assigned—whether patient-facing or administrative—you have the flexibility to schedule your weekly volunteer hours during the week.
Can I choose the type of volunteering?
Yes. Our volunteer opportunities focus on two main areas:
Patient & Family Support (in person):
• Companionship & Emotional Support
• Respite Care for Caregivers
• Music Therapy Support
• Pet Therapy Support
Administrative & Staff Support:
• Office & Administrative Support
• Support Calls
If you feel your skills and interests align more with administrative work, you may choose that type of volunteering. If you prefer working directly with patients and families, you may select one of the patient-focused volunteer roles.
Will I receive emotional support as a volunteer?
Yes. Our team of specialists includes trained professionals who will support and guide you throughout your volunteer journey, helping make the experience more manageable and meaningful.
